Computing and Internet Use Policy

End User Agreement

By accessing, connecting or using the libraries computing and Internet facilities or any electronic services provided by the National Library of Maldives (hereafter referred to as the Library), the user agrees to abide and follow the rules and guidelines defined in this policy.

Service Policy

Resource and material evaluation

Individuals are responsible for evaluating the content of resources they view, read or listen to.

Underage Users

Monitoring and any restriction of a child's access to inappropriate content is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Privacy

Users carrying out any type of financial transactions or activities that require confidentiality do so at their own risk. The Internet is a public environment. Security and confidentiality of electronic communication cannot be guaranteed.

Security

Security for personal devices rests solely with the owner. Users must never leave their devices unattended. The library and library staff will not be held responsible for loss of any items due to user negligence.

Staff assistance

Library staff may provide guidance for accessing library materials and library services with user devices, however they do not provide technical support.

User responsibility

The Library makes no claim or guarantee that any part of the computer and Internet services, including wireless access will be uninterrupted, error-free, timely or secure, nor that any Internet content is accurate, reliable or safe in any manner for download or any other purpose.

Harmful Content

Any content accessed, viewed or downloaded from the Internet may contain viruses or other malicious software that can harm or infiltrate the user devices. Users are responsible for setting up their own security measures to protect their devices.

Access Limits and Content Blocking

Time limits, bandwidth limits, download or upload limits or access controls may be enforced to ensure that all customers have fair opportunity to use computing facilities and Internet resources. The library may enforce any type of access controls, limits or content blocking without prior notice.

Copyright & Intellectual Property

Every individual is responsible for complying with copyright law and adhering to software or service licensing agreements, as well as all local laws and international laws ratified by the Republic of Maldives.

Legal use

Use of the Library's Internet connection in any type of illegal, disruptive or destructive manner may result in the loss of Internet or library privileges.

Disclaimer

Users agree to indemnify and not to hold the Library for any claim or demand, that may be made by any third party due to or arising out of user conduct in connection with any use of the Library’s computing facilities and Internet service, wireless network and electronic information resources, user provision of content, user violation of this Policy, or any other violation of the rights of another person or party.

Appropriate Use

The following guideline has been created to establish appropriate use of the Library's computing and Internet services that would allow as many users to use the Library’s computing facilities in a limited space, in compliance with the Library’s policies and in keeping with the Library's mission.

  • The Library’s computing facilities and Internet service must be used in a responsible manner, consistent with appropriate behavior in the Library. All users must be quiet, courteous towards others, and respectful of Library equipment.
  • Users must not use personal software, download software, or bookmark sites on the Library's work stations.
  • Users must not modify hardware or software, or change configurations.
  • Users must not attempt to access non-public data or accounts using the Library’s workstations or network.
  • Users must not attempt to monitor, intercept, disrupt, or impede other user's communications, be it with malicious intent or otherwise.
  • Any activity that violates the law is prohibited on both library and user devices. Such illegal activities may include, however not limited to fraud, identity theft, spamming, harassment, slandering, displaying or distribution of pornographic or other obscene materials, violence and terrorism.
