What Is A Library Consortium?
EIFL has operated in the Maldives since 2011. This alliance enables Maldivian libraries to access a range of scholarly electronic resources. The EIFL Consortium Building & Licensing Workshop was held at the National Art Gallery Hall on 22 – 23 September 2014, with participants from 23 institutions Activities carried out by the National Library of the Maldives in conjunction with a nation and a licensing coordinator include sharing free resources with members and participating in the general assembly.
Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to do research and needs access to research papers and journals.
Vision
1. The vision is to enhance equitable access to information and learning resources, support evidence-based education and research, and promote a culture of collaboration among libraries nationwide.
Objectives
- The key objectives of MLC are:
- To provide access to high-quality and scholarly electronic resources to many academic institutions, including universities, colleges and institutions, at substantially lower rates of subscription and most favourable terms and conditions.
- To conduct training for the users, librarians, research scholars and faculty members of the institutions in the use of the e-resources to enhance their usage.
- By implementing these goals, MLC shall:
- Coordinate the placing of orders for these databases by the members of MLC.
- Train users on information retrieval from subscribed databases.

Rights and obligations of MLC’s members
- Take part in the events, projects and programs arranged by MLC.
- Participate in the annual meeting.
- Take part in discussions on the issues related to the activity of MLC.
- Familiarize themselves with the documents of MLC and get information on its activities.
- terminate their membership upon having applied to MLC.
Procedure and conditions for accession into and exclusion from MLC
- Any institution or a corresponding division can join the MLC or withdraw from it.
- The library or institution wishing to participate in the activity of MLC shall apply, signed by the head of the organization to MLC.
